Vintage decorative platter (circa 1970s) by Albert Thiry. An oatmeal-coloured glaze provides the backdrop for a colourful flower motif and foliage in the recess of the platter. These markings and colouring are quintessential Albert Thiry. In good overall condition. There is an opening on the backside of the dish for hanging wire. Signed: ‘Thiry’ on the earthy clay underside. This gallery finds that Thiry’s works deserve the increased interest and demand in his pieces in overdue recognition of his artistic creativity. His family moved to Vallauris where he spent most of the school holidays in the potteries; in 1956 he was taken on as an assistant decorator with an opportunity to make his own pieces. Albert and his wife, Pyot, set up their own pottery in 1961. Their standard production, in Vallauris clay with added grog to emphasise rusticity, resulted in delightful pieces both highly elaborate and utilitarian. Dimensions : Dia 29 cm / 11.4″ H 4 cm / 1.6″.
