“Hill house” chair by charles rennie mackintoch, designed in 1902 and re-published in the 1970s. Wooden frame and black leather seat. Italian manufacture by cassina. Slight traces of wear. Seat height: 43cm.
This iconic chair reflects the style of charles rennie mackintosh and his fearless approach to the most difficult manufacturing processes. Designed for the hill house project in scotland, from which it takes its name, it features a geometric and linear shape which evokes minimalism and the abstract graphics of japanese design, mixing symbolic and figurational values in a single furniture of great individuality and stage presence. This piece is considered by many critics not only as a chair, but also as a true treaty on the way in which space can be articulated. The high back is defined by a succession of horizontal lines, top by a grid of verticals and horizontals. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
designer records,
or other literature sources and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising
from
misattribution
