Vintage Design
This intricate panel, crafted circa 1860 in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, was originally part of a Chinese daybed. The focal point of the piece is a finely-engraved relief depicting visitors being received at court. Combined with its accompanying side and back railings, the set retraces a traditional Chinese story. Crafted entirely by hand, the expertise and skill utilised to make the panels of this daybed is remarkable. The intricate detailing of the faces, trees, mountains and other features on the panels is commendable as it would have taken several months to create this daybed for its wealthy owner. Today, the panels individually bring a unique flair to any wall.
