Prague-based Vadim Kibardin developed Chameleon series of functional sculptures, using waste cardboard as the construction medium for his works but this time attaining a new level of functionality. The genesis of the collection was a chance visit to a flea market where Vadim witnessed his contemporaries acquiring vintage coins and objects that are no longer of use with a sense of wonder. Keen to rejuvenate a century-old piece with a new meaning, he purchased a vintage lamp, enveloped it in colourful layers of card and paper, and added the extra dimension of a clock to give an unexpected combination of functions to a long-forgotten historic castoff.
