This is an exceptional folk art bridal cupboard from southern Germany (Upper Bavaria). What is special about this example is the “faux” marble painting, which covers the entire cabinet in blue and red tones. What must have been a lot of painstaking work at the time. This copy dates from around 1850 and is still in very good condition considering its age. Some light signs of wear can be noticed, especially on the footer. Two small pieces of plinth are also missing here, but these are fairly out of sight (see photo). For the purist it is a small restoration, but without having done this the case is no less beautiful. The interior layout consists of a rod, some shelves and a drawer. The cabinet is fairly shallow and narrow and can therefore be placed easily. In the past, it was customary to give bridal furniture like this as a gift to the couple at a wedding. This furniture was subsequently placed on the farm in a stately room that was only rarely used for high-ranking visitors or special occasions. A beautiful and decorative piece of history. On the back a transport label from 1916 from Miesbach to Bad Tölz. 189cm high, 113cm wide, 48cm deep.
