Vintage Design
Unusual box representing a rabbit, carved in wood, probably Makura (pillow), Japan, Edo era around 1800. The lid and the bottom are pierced with 4 holes through which the bonds of hinges passed. Those at the bottom are inside the box probably allowing closing stability, they are not visible in the photo. At the front and rear of the box, an lug is inserted into a hole to guarantee the stability of the closure. L 40 cm x D 14 cm x H 18 cm. H useful 6 cm. Provenance: succession of the merchant and collector Claude de Marteau. Sold with certificate of provenance
