The equator pendant is designed in 1968 by jo hammerborg for fog & mørup – and re-introduced in bright new colors with the rainbow line in 1969.
a large space age pendant, comprised of two inner rings surrounded by larger outer ring and a cylinder shaped top, all with colored outer coating. The rings have white inner coating, except for the bottom ring, which like most of hammerborg’s lights features a dark gray inside, to acts a diffuser, to counter direct light throw back.
when lit, the light is emitted through the narrow space between rings, and creates a soft illumination, while still giving a direct flow of light through the open bottom. The outer ring turns dark, while the two inner rings and the cylinder top turns lighter, as they are lit up by the reflection from the outer ring.
the equator was originally introduced in 1968 in three different colors; light grey, pale blue and orange (almost red), and the following year it was re-launched in new vibrant colors, together with two existing designs and one new design, in the rainbow line. The new color theme were bright red, sunny yellow, bright blue and white.
this light is in good vintage condition with only a few small scratches visible only with careful examination.
standard e27 light bulb.
johannes (jo) hammerborg grew up right outside of randers, in a regular middle-class family. He trained as a silversmith, participated in denmark’s resistance and struggle for freedom in 1940-45 as a saboteur, studied at the royal danish academy of fine arts and worked as a silversmith at georg jensen. In 1957, he was hired as a chief designer at the lamp manufacturer fog & mørup, where he worked until 1980.
and now, decades later, his coveted lamps are in high demand, and they are being sold in antique shops. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
