Reclaimed Clock Hands from the Iconic Waterloo Concourse Clock
The iconic clock was originally installed by Gents of Leicester in the London railway station circa 1920 and has been refurbished only a small number of times over the past 100 years.
The original clock as pictured in 1979 shows our original arrow design hands which are a renowned hand style of Gents of Leicester.
The huge four sided clock has been a popular meeting point for Londoners for the last 100 years and even featured in the Christmas Day special of the BBC’s hit sitcom “Only Fools and Horses” in 1988 where Del Boy first met Raquel.
The hands were removed in the 1980’s when the clock was refurbished by Derby based clock specialists Smiths of Derby The hands were replaced with a new style hand and the famous Gents of Leicester logos were removed and 24 hour digits were added to the traditional roman numeral dials.
Our set of hands came from the man that removed them from the clock and is the only set remaining in existence as astonishingly the other three sets were destroyed.
The clock has since been restored again in 2010 by the same Derby clock firm and aesthetically remained the same but the inner workings were updated to run to the modern GPS timekeeping technology.
The clocks hands are a true collectors piece as well as a stunning wall feature that will become an endless talking point of any interior.
The minute hand is just over 1m in length and for scale we have pictured next to an original Gents of Leicester station clock from the same time period to give a true sense of scale. The clock is 80 cm in diameter and can also be found for sale here.
